Our Artemisia tea is extracted from a perennial woody shrub with a leafy, hairy and ridged stem called Artemisia Afra. Which is one of over 500 species of the genus Artemisia. Many critical drugs have been discovered from the Artemisia genus, notably anti-malaria and anti-cancer drugs such as Artemisinin. Atermisia Afra has a distinctive aromatic odour and a strong, bitter taste.

Artemisia Afra primary grows in Southern Africa, in countries such as Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. You will also find it in the mountain regions of Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya.

This medicinal plant possesses antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. These properties are also found in our Sutherlandia Herbal Tea.

Preparing Artemisia Afra in the form of a tea is only one of may ways in which this plant can be prepared. Other methods of preparation include an infusion of leaves or roots of this plant, which is often used to treat diabetes[3]. Inhaling steam from boiling Artemisia Afra leaves can help treat respiratory infections.
